The beginning and the end…. It was my Oma’s (grandmother) 96 birthday the other day. It can be tough to see someone you love and who you knew when they spilled over in vitality slowly become less and less… She has macular degeneration and is practically blind now, which closes her in so much so than someone else of that age.. and is so painful for me to watch knowing how much the visual sense is in my life.. Recently though she has been asking to see a photo of my opa (grandfather), who died fourty years ago…though the only photo large enough for her to see is a beautiful hand colored photo of him when he was in the beginning of his life.. “My what a handsome man he was” she says as she holds the photo up close. Then she takes the photo and put it up to her chest and falls asleep.. I imagine that when she is ready they will be together once again. I asked her recently as the put the photo down and she said “Not Yet”….

  1. So beautiful!! The photo and writing. It speaks to me as a photographer, a member of a macular degeneration family, and many other reasons.

I really like your blog. Will be back.

  2. Velry nice Sabina!
